A Professional Voicemail Message

I just recently heard about someone who has a child on their voicemail while in the throes of the job search. Is this you? Did you forget that when an employer hears your voice (not your child's) that they can discern a little more about you and whether they might want to work with you? Please make sure to present a professional image all around. It scares me when people say having a professional voicemail isn't going to make a difference when I know it really does have an impact. While in a job search just don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Now more than ever I suggest you find what your favorite skills are. You can focus your job search, your resume and your career moves based on this. I really enjoy knowing what skills I like to use. I can select and volunteer for projects I will work on based on whether it involves skills I enjoy. The funny thing is we all will work our favorite skills into any work we are doing as much as possible any way.

Doing Company Research

There are many resources for researching a company or industry. My favorite is Reference USA. The local library in Arapahoe County now has another powerful tool and is offering free training on it's use. It is called Business Decision. I will attend the training soon and post what I think will be useful to job seekers and small businesses. I also like to check www.vault.com , www.yahoo/finance.com and www.ceoexpress.com to identify company financials, press releases, and industry articles.
